Funds transferred into your Savings Account will be pending for 3 business days before they are
made available.
You can see the available date of deposited funds by navigating to your Savings Account and
selecting the recent transfer.
External bank account to M1 Checking Account
This can take up to 4 business days.
External bank account to Crypto Account
You will be immediately granted up to $5,000 of your pending deposit. The remainder will be credited to buying power when the transfer settles.
External bank account to M1 Personal Loan
Payments to M1 Personal Loans take up to 2-5 business days to complete.
Withdrawals, Margin Loan transfers, and internal transfers from M1 Invest Accounts are subject to the following:
Settlement period: Before any funds can be disbursed to our users, all sales must settle. Settlement occurs on T+2 (Trade Date plus two trading days). Funds take two trading days after their sale to be available for disbursement.
Example: A withdrawal is requested on Thursday. Securities are sold on Friday and will generally settle on the following Tuesday.
Holding period: All new deposits to M1 Invest require a 6 business day holding period before they can be withdrawn to any external bank or M1 Checking. After 6 business days, the transfer to your bank begins.
Example: You deposit $500 into your account on Monday, the 1st of the month. A withdrawal of $100 after this will be held until Tuesday, the 9th, before the transfer to your bank begins.
All incoming ACAT transfers to M1 Invest require a 15 business day holding period before they can be withdrawn to any external bank, M1 Checking, or M1 High-Yield Savings Account. After 15 business days, the transfer begins.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations: All funds received from a banking institution can only be returned to that same bank for 60 days. For their first 60 days, funds received cannot be disbursed to a different bank than from where they originated.
Withdrawals
M1 Invest Account to external bank account
This can take between 2-5 business days. Funds will need to settle (see settlement period above) before the transfer can be initiated to your external bank account. Once the withdrawal request is completed in M1's systems, it can take up to 1 business day for the funds to be reflected by your bank account. These funds are subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Checking Account to external bank account
ACH withdrawals: This takes between 2-3 business days from when your funds are available, or up to 6 business days. Once the withdrawal request completes in M1's systems, it can take up to 1 business day for the funds to be reflected by your bank account.
Checks: This can take 5-7 business days. We recommend giving yourself extra time to allow your payment to reach its destination (for time sensitive payments).
M1 High-Yield Savings Account to external bank account
This takes between 1-2 business days from when your funds are available, or up to 6 business days.
Once the withdrawal request completes in M1's systems, it can take up to 1 business day for the funds to be reflected by your bank account.
Crypto Account to external bank account
This can take between 2-5 business days. Funds will need to settle (see settlement period above) before the transfer can be initiated to your external bank account. Once the withdrawal request is completed in M1's systems, it can take up to 1 business day for the funds to be reflected by your bank account. These funds are subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Margin Loan to external bank account
Borrowing to your external bank usually completes within 2-5 business days and is subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Personal Loan
M1 Personal Loan disbursements should take about 1-5 business days to complete.
Internal Transfers
Transfers Between M1 Invest Accounts
Please note that you can only transfer funds between Invest Accounts after you have opened an M1 Checking Account.
This can take between 2-5 business days. Funds will need to settle (see settlement period above) before the transfer can be initiated. Please note that you may not see the funds reflected by either Invest account while the transfer is in progress. These funds are subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Invest Account to M1 Checking Account
This can take between 2-5 business days. Funds will need to settle (see settlement period above) before the transfer can be completed to your M1 Checking Account. These funds are subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Invest Account to M1 Margin Loan
This can take up to 5 business days. Funds will need to settle (see settlement period above) before they can be used to pay down your M1 Margin Loan.
M1 Individual Brokerage Accounts to an M1 High-Yield Savings Account
Please note transfers between M1 Individual Brokerage Accounts and M1 Savings are currently only available for accounts cleared by M1.

M1 High-Yield Savings Account to M1 Individual Brokerage Accounts

Transferring funds from M1 Savings to an M1 Individual Brokerage Account is nearly instant.
Transfers between an M1 High-Yield Savings Account and M1 Checking Accounts
Transferring funds between M1 Savings and M1 Checking is nearly instant.
M1 Margin Loan to M1 Invest Account
When you transfer borrowed funds within the same Invest Account, the trade will go through during the next trading window.
Example: You’re using a $500 line of credit in your Individual Brokerage Account and want to invest that $500 into that same account. Once you place a manual buy order, it will be invested during the next trading window.
Borrowing to a different M1 Invest Account requires the usual withdrawal timing. This usually completes within 2-5 business days and is subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
Example: You’re using a $500 line of credit in your M1 Individual Brokerage Account –ABC and want to invest that $500 into your M1 Joint Brokerage Account -XYZ. Once you place a manual buy order, it will be invested during the next trading window (subject to settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation).
M1 Margin Loan to M1 Checking Account
This usually completes within 2-5 business days and is subject to the settlement period, holding period, and AML regulation described above.
M1 Margin Loan to M1 High-Yield Savings Account
This usually completes within 2-5 business days and is subject to the settlement period, holding
period, and AML regulation described above.
Note on transfers:
Pending Transfers: M1 only allows for a single pending transfer at a time. Until a transfer request is completed or canceled, you will be unable to create a new deposit or withdrawal. Before completion transfers can always be canceled in the funding tab.
Trading Days: Starting on 7/1/2020, M1's morning trade window will begin at 9:30am EST every day the NYSE market is open. This is every weekday except for the NYSE holidays.
Holidays: Market holidays and banking holidays do not count as business days.
