To be eligible to use M1 Margin Loans, you must have a M1 Individual/Joint Brokerage Account or Trust Account with an invested account balance of $2,000 or more. M1 Tradition, Roth, and SEP IRAs, Custodial, and Trust Accounts* do not qualify.
Your Margin Loan request may also be denied if:
- Your portfolio is not diversified. For example, your entire portfolio is invested in a single stock.
- You request to borrow above 40% of your invested portfolio value.
- You have already borrowed the maximum amount.
M1 will not allow withdrawals that make your Margin Loan amount greater than 40% of your account value. M1 will require you to pay back some of your debt before your withdrawal request can be completed.
*Trust Accounts are eligible for an M1 Margin Loan if you sign the Margin and Short Agreement when opening an M1 Finance Trust Account.
