Model Portfolios help simplify the portfolio-building process and serve as a starting point for both new and experienced investors.

General Investing: Core, diversified Pies that fit broad risk profiles from conservative to aggressive.
Retirement: Designed for long-term growth and stability, e.g., Target Date Retirement Model Portfolios.
Income–Focused: Pies aimed at generating dividends or steady payouts.
Responsible Investing (ESG): Focus on environmental, social, and governance criteria.
Stocks & Bonds: Exposure to stocks and bonds with a simple balance of two ETFs

How to choose a Model Portfolio
Define your investment goal
Decide if you’re seeking long-term growth, income, risk management, responsible investing, or thematic exposure.
Explore categories in the Research tab
View all available Model Portfolios in the M1 Research tab. Review their descriptions and allocations.
Evaluate strategy and components
Each Model Portfolio lists its holdings, methodology (e.g., aggressive growth, income), and hypothetical historical performance.
Select based on fit
Choose a Model Portfolio that aligns with your timeline, risk comfort, and financial objectives.
Using Model Portfolios in your account
To add a Model Portfolio:
Go to the Research tab.
Browse and select a Model Portfolio that interests you.
Use it as your entire portfolio or add it as a slice alongside Custom Pies.
How is performance calculated?
M1 shows hypothetical, back-tested performance for Model Portfolios.
Assumptions include quarterly rebalancing and immediate reinvestment of dividends.
Performance does not reflect taxes or all possible fees.
Historical data sources are reputable but have not been internally audited by M1.
Brokerage accounts on the M1 platform are either fully disclosed to APEX Clearing or cleared through M1 Finance LLC. Please look at your account statement to determine how your account is cleared.
