How to download Realized Gains for M1 Individual or Joint Brokerage accounts

You can access realized gains (closed tax lots) directly on the M1 web platform.

Note: This feature is only available on M1 Web at this time.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your M1 account on the web.

  2. Go to your Invest tab.

  3. Click the Holdings tab.

  4. Click the Download menu and select either:

    1. Open tax lots (for current holdings)

    2. Closed tax lots (for realized gains)

  5. Download the file as a CSV to review your tax lot details.

Note: 2023 closed lot data for accounts managed by M1’s self-clearing platform will only include closed lots after the migration date. For closed lots prior to migration, see the next section.

How to access Realized Gains for other account types or historical data

For access to realized gains prior to self-clearing migration or for non-standard accounts, you will need to use Apex Clearing’s online portal.

If you have not created an Apex account login

Create your Apex Clearing account:

  1. Go to apexclearing.com and click the Login in the top right.

  2. Select Apex Clearing.

  3. Click Create a User ID under the Log In area.

  4. Enter your M1 Invest Account number (located in your M1 settings).

  5. Enter your Social Security Number for verification.

  6. Provide your email address (consider using your M1 email for consistency).

  7. Choose a security question and create your user ID and password.

If you have created existing Apex account login

Add multiple M1 Invest accounts:

  1. Log in to Apex.

  2. Click the Apex Online Menu at the top, then Add Accounts.

  3. Enter any additional M1 Invest account numbers you wish to link.

Download Realized Gains from Apex

  1. Go to apexclearing.com and click the profile (silhouette) icon in the top right.

  2. Select Apex Clearing and log in with your Apex credentials (not your M1 login).

  3. Enter your M1 Invest Account number in the search bar near the top left.

  4. Click the Apex Online Menu, then select Cost Basis.

  5. By default, you'll see current unrealized gains. Click the Closed Positions tab to view realized gains.

  6. Select Export to CSV to download the information.

Note: Apex data is especially relevant for any closed lots before your account migrated to M1’s self-clearing platform.

  • DISALLOWED LOSS AMT: Loss not allowed due to wash sale rule
