Open an M1 Inherited IRA

To open an Inherited IRA, also known as a "Beneficiary IRA" at M1, you will need to have an open and active M1 account and complete the necessary documentation. If you don’t already have an M1 account, please follow the steps listed here.

Please note: An Inherited IRA cannot be opened from within your account.

While filling out the appropriate form, please make sure to include the name of the deceased in the appropriate box.

Once you have submitted your Inherited IRA Documents, please upload a copy of your government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport) using this form.

We will follow up with you via email and open your account within 2-3 business days. If any additional documents are needed, we will reach out directly to you via email.


Brokerage accounts on the M1 platform are either fully disclosed to APEX Clearing or cleared through M1 Finance LLC. Please look at your account statement to determine how your account is cleared.
