You may see pending sells or account edits in your M1 Invest account for a variety of reasons, including manual actions you have taken or automatic adjustments made by M1. This article explains why pending sells appear and how to cancel them, if possible.
Pending sells and edits: Reasons and how to cancel
Manual rebalance
A manual rebalance returns your portfolio to the target percentages you set. This only happens if you select the “Rebalance” button under the Invest tab.
If you started a rebalance but change your mind, you can cancel it before the next trade window.
To cancel a pending rebalance:
Go to the Invest tab.
Click or tap Cancel Rebalance under the notification about the rebalance.

Manual sell order (Pie or Slice)
You can manually place a sell order for a specific Slice of your portfolio. After the order is placed, it will show as a pending trade until it executes during the next trade window.
To cancel a pending manual sell order:
Go to the Invest tab and select the account containing the order.
Select Trades under Upcoming Activity.
On mobile, swipe up from the bottom and tap View Details to see upcoming trades.
Click or tap Cancel next to the pending order.
Important:
If the sell order was triggered by setting a Slice’s allocation to 0% (removal), follow the Slice Removal steps below.
Negative cash balance
If you have a negative cash balance, M1 will automatically initiate sells to cover the deficit (such as margin loan interest, fees, or debits).
To prevent a sell from happening, please contact us. If you contact us before the next trade window begins, we may be able to pause your account while you deposit cash to prevent the sell.
Delisted or unsupported securities (“Received Securities”)
If you hold securities no longer supported by M1, these appear under “Holdings M1 does not support” in your Invest tab (Received Securities section).
You may choose to liquidate these positions. After you confirm a liquidation, the action will be marked as “Liquidation Pending” and will occur in the next trade window.
Notes:
Liquidations requested from holdings outside your Pie are separate from your other orders.
Proceeds from this type of liquidation will not be used to cover a negative cash balance.

Slice or Pie removal
Setting a Slice or Pie’s target allocation to 0% will remove it, creating a pending sell for that Slice or Pie. The proceeds from the sale will automatically reinvest in the remaining Slices, regardless of your auto-invest settings.
To cancel a pending Slice or Pie removal:
Navigate to your portfolio.
Select "Edit".
Add the removed Pie or Slice back to its original location in your portfolio before the next trade window.
Assign a nonzero percentage and Save.
If a custom Pie was removed, Edit the portfolio and add the Pie back to its original location from the My Pies section.
If the next trade window has already been executed, the Slice or Pie removal can no longer be canceled.

Slice Removal from Model Portfolios
If you use M1 Model Portfolios (pre-built collections of stocks and ETFs), Slices may be removed automatically when M1 updates the model.
You cannot manually add, remove, or alter Slices in Model Portfolios.
Changes to these portfolios are made by M1 and apply automatically.
