The Borrow tab is where you’ll find key information about your M1 Margin Loan(s).

Margin Loan balance and Margin interest rate

Your Margin Loan balance is the amount you’re currently borrowing against the value of your investments, while the Margin interest rate is the annual percentage it costs to borrow it.

Available to borrow

You can power investing and non-investing goals using an M1 Margin Loan while staying invested. How much you can borrow depends on how you want to use the money. There are two options:

Withdraw up to

“Withdraw up to” is the most you can withdraw in cash from your Margin Loan. If your Margin Loan balance meets or exceeds this amount, you will have no more available margin to withdraw as cash.

Invest up to

“Invest up to” is the most you can invest back into your Margin Loan’s linked Brokerage Account. If your Margin Loan balance meets or exceeds this amount, you will have no more available margin to invest.

“Invest up to” will typically be greater than your “Withdraw up to” amount, because investing increases your portfolio value, allowing you to borrow more.

However, “Invest up to” may equal your “Withdraw up to” value if you’ve used up your available margin or your portfolio contains a Slice with a 100% initial requirement.

Margin health

The margin health dial visualizes how far your portfolio would have to drop to reach a margin call. Margin calls are rare, and we’ll alert you by email if your loan is experiencing one. Learn more about what to do if you are issued a margin call.

Under the dial, we tell you how much the value of your investments would need to decrease before you would face a margin call.

Interest

The interest section of the Margin Loan dashboard displays the interest accrued so far this month, the projected interest for the entire month based on your current loan balance, and the date accrued interest will be deducted from the account the Margin Loan is linked to.

Learn more about how interest is paid on Margin Loans. You can also access past interest statements from your Margin Loan dashboard.

Activity

Margin Loan transactions are listed in the activity section. You’ll see entries for each time you borrow or make repayments.
