Holdings not in Pies
Updated over a week ago

Received securities

After a corporate action or transferring an investment account to M1, new securities are automatically received on your behalf.

These received securities are added to your account automatically but will remain outside your portfolio until you decide how to manage them.

Where to view received securities

A banner will appear on both the portfolio and holdings tabs to notify you if you have any holdings that are not in Pies. You can click or tap “View and Update” on the banner or go here.

From this page you’ll see the number of holdings not in Pies, their quantity and value, any unrealized gain or loss, and colored tags which explain where the security was received from and other helpful information like if it has been delisted or is inactive.

Types of holdings not in Pies

You have different options to manage holdings not in Pies depending on if an investment is supported at M1 or not.

M1 supported holdings

When a security that’s received is supported by M1, you can choose from the following options:

  • Move the security to an existing Pie

  • Move the security to a new Pie

  • Hold the security outside your portfolio

If you want to liquidate a holding outside your Pie that M1 supports, you’ll need to add it to a portfolio first.

Holdings M1 does not support

When a security that’s received isn’t supported by M1, such as preferred stock, you can choose from the following options:

  • Liquidate the security

  • Hold the security outside your portfolio

Other holdings

These received holdings are both unsupported and cannot be liquidated by M1. Examples include delisted securities, options, and bonds. You can either continue to hold these securities outside your Pie or you can contact us for possible next steps.
